Defunding the Enemy

U.S. Lawmakers Are Probing George Soros

For most conservatives, the name of progressive billionaire philanthropist George Soros has a nasty ring. Soros stands accused of financing a myriad of liberal activist groups that have sparked violent attacks on police, politicians and civilians in a quest to generate sympathy and media attention for his causes via “color revolutions” — a nice way of saying that Soros’ stock-in-trade is overthrowing governments, in all cases for his own personal profit.
For decades,

Soros worked in the shadows of foreign exchange and currency speculation, and his actions were less well publicized due to a carefully crafted use of secrecy and a web of shell companies to cover his actions. However, now that conservative research has shone a bright light on much of his network, Soros has nowhere to hide as the extent and reach of his organizational tentacles has become well-known.

If Soros’ efforts were truly benevolent and for the good of mankind, fewer people would be bothered by his machinations. However, in nearly all cases, his actions have only one motive: the explicit enrichment of Soros and his family, which currently sit on a fortune estimated at roughly $25 billion.

As opposed to other billionaires, who make bets on various stocks and commodities, Soros pumps money into politics and activism, manipulating entire governments and anti-government movements, effecting the toppling of regimes from Serbia to Ukraine, with no shortage of violence, death and collateral damage inflicted along the way.

Soros has even admitted that his methods of producing “profits” may be unethical, but that he’s duty-bound to his financial partners and investors (including, primarily, himself) to take the actions he does.

Now, however, some U.S. Congressional lawmakers may finally be about to investigate Soros’ European political activities, even though Soros has made his home in the U.S. since 1956.

In recent days, questions have been asked about Soros’ involvement in Hungary, Macedonia and Romania, where the financier has been deploying “tons of money and international heavy artillery,” according to Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary (which happens to be the country of Soros’ birth).

Essentially confessing its involvement, Laura Silber, the chief communications officer of Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF), stated, “[OSF] for over 30 years has supported civil society groups in Hungary who are addressing profound problems in education, healthcare, media freedom and corruption. Any attacks on this work and those groups are solely an attempt to deflect attention from the government’s inability to address these issues.”

Silber said OSF’s goal is “to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens,” but this is Leftist-speak for interfering in government politics to bring about changes that are only favorable to progressives.

In Macedonia, it appears that U.S. tax dollars may even be working to fund Soros projects to “shape [the] media environment and civil society,” according to Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah.

In a letter to U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia Jess Bailey, Senator Lee says, “I’ve received credible reports that, over the past few years, the US Mission to Macedonia has actively intervened in the party politics of Macedonia… often favoring groups of one political persuasion over another… It’s important that this nation of 2.1 million, situated in a historically turbulent region, continues developing with as little outside political influence as possible.”

Lee’s staff recently met with Macedonian lawmakers, who gave them a white paper from a citizens’ group called “Stop Operation Soros.” It included claims that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding hard-Left initiatives in the country, including street riots and the publishing of a Macedonian version of Saul Alinsky’s handbook “Rules for Radicals” (a book cited as a major influence on ex-President Barack Obama, who worked for the Alinsky-affiliated Project Vote and ACORN — a now-discredited community organizing group).

Lee’s letter to Ambassador Bailey specifically asked if Soros’ OSF has been selected “as the major implementer of USAID projects in Macedonia.”

In its reply to Senator Lee, the State Department said the U.S. mission in the country works “in a non-biased, non-partisan, objective and transparent manner,” but admitted that between 2002 and 2017, USAID had given three grants to the Macedonian branch of OSF.

One of these grants — worth some $5 million — was given to OSF to implement what it called “The Civil Society Project,” which “aims to empower Macedonian citizens to hold government accountable.” In fact, the USAID website currently links directly to Soros’ website and says that this project trained hundreds of Macedonians “in youth activism and the use of new media instruments.”

Another grant funded an initiative called the “Civic Engagement Project,” which is supposed to facilitate fair elections in the country. However, the initiative seems to be doing more than that, according to Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, a Christian conservative advocacy organization.

“It’s one thing to do election monitoring, which is a very noble cause to make sure there are free and fair elections, but it’s quite another thing to be backing parties that Soros and his gang want to see in control of that country,” he said.

According to Adam Shaw at Fox News, WikiLeaks emails from the Hillary Clinton campaign revealed that Soros wrote to Clinton in 2011 to take action in Albania over populist demonstrations there. As opposed to the situations in Hungary and Macedonia, in this case, Soros was on the side of the government.

Soros asked Clinton to “bring the full weight of the international community to bear on [Albanian] Prime Minister Berisha and opposition leader Edi Rama to forestall further public demonstrations and to tone down public pronouncements” as well as appointing a senior European official to act as a mediator.

In a few days’ time, Clinton summarily dispatched a State Department envoy to get the job done. Former Macedonian PM Gruevski cited this example as proof that “[Soros] can go visit top leading American officials whenever he wants to, arrange meetings day in and day out and maintain significant influence.”

Over the last several weeks in Romania, there have been non-stop demonstrations by millions of citizens against the government of new Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu of the Social Democrat Party. Many observers say these demonstrations have been organized and paid for by activist groups tied to Soros’ OSF.

It’s known that the head of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) is a Soros protégé, Eduard Hellvig. If the protesters succeed in removing the Social Democrats from power, it would be Soros who would profit from it.

In all of these cases, it’s clear that an agenda is being pushed by a man who has only one true interest at heart: his own. Prior to Donald Trump’s inauguration, it was rumored that officials working for Trump’s presidential transition team had requested that Russia provide files on Soros in compliance with an executive order signed by ex-President Obama relating to the financial sponsoring of activists in Ukraine.

It’s unclear whether the Russian government complied with this request. But even if it was just a rumor, it didn’t make Soros happy, as he in turn called Trump a “would-be dictator,” “an imposter” and a “con man” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January.

“I am personally convinced that [President Trump] is going to fail — not because of people like me who would like him to fail, but because the ideas that guide him are inherently self-contradictory,” said Soros.

Self-contradictory or not, Trump’s ideas helped generate a billion dollar loss for the financier prior to Trump’s inauguration as the billionaire bet against the U.S. market rally that coincided with Trump’s win. To be certain, in Soros’ world, that’s not a loss to be taken lightly.

Soros seems committed to battling Trump with what remains of his fortune, in conjunction with politicians such as former President Obama, former Democratic candidate Clinton and Senators such as Chuck Schumer, Lindsey Graham and John McCain (the latter of whom has announced he wants to investigate Trump’s connections with Russia).

The idea that Soros looks at the United States no differently than an Eastern European republic at this point is fairly valid, and to be sure, Soros’ funding of groups such as Refuse Fascism, Black Lives Matter, the Alliance for Global Justice and countless others is no different than his funding of similar activist groups in nations such as Hungary, Romania, Macedonia and Albania.

“This guy is a spider with lots of webs,” said GOP strategist Brad Blakeman on Fox News’ Strategy Room. “He controls numerous third-party groups where he uses his influence. We’ve seen it internally with Black Lives Matter… the demonstrations taking place after the inaugural — this is what he does.”

Let’s hope that the newfound attention given to his activities by Senators such as Mike Lee will lead to Congressional sanctions being taken against Soros, up to and including imprisonment for this foreign-born meddler in American affairs. ~ American Liberty Report
