In 1989, there were
20.7 private sector manufacturing jobs in the US. Off-shoring jobs resulted in
a loss of 9.1 million jobs over 20 years of off-shoring. These were all middle
class jobs.
In January 2009, the
US had 12.5 million US manufacturing jobs, by December 2009, there were 11.5
million US manufacturing jobs.
US manufacturing jobs
by year end from 2009 to 2018 were as follows:
2009 12.5 m
2010 11.6 m
2011 11.8 m
2012 11.9 m
2013 12.0 m
2014 12.2 m
2015 12.3 m
2016 12.4 m
2017 12.5 m
2018 12.8 m
US
manufacturing jobs in auto and other main industries were off-shored after
1993. In 2009, 1 million jobs were lost to lay-offs after the 2008
Meltdown. The 12.5 million remaining
jobs were eliminated.
Most
manufacturing jobs created from 2009 to 2016 were low-skilled and lower paid in
small companies. There rest were foreign owned companies who established
manufacturing plants in the US and paying middle class wages.
Now in
2019 we need to add back the 9 million manufacturing jobs we lost to fully
restore our economy. These can include foreign owned company jobs in the US.
Our goal is to produce in the US everything we consume in the US.
These
jobs need to be in modern production facilities, utilizing targeted automation
to ensure high quality and throughput. Community colleges should be used by
companies to provide the training needed for their particular jobs.
In
addition to manufacturing jobs, we will need 3 million more middle class jobs
to work on resource extraction, maintenance and construction jobs. These are
jobs extracting Oil, Natural Gas, Coal, Minerals and Timber. We need pipelines,
LNG plants and technicians. We need to replace our aging sewers and water
distribution pipes. We need to expand roads and highways in large cities. We need
more hydroelectric dams and reservoirs. These should be funded by Companies, States
and Municipalities with no federal dollars. The US federal government debt is
maxed out. We need truck drivers, pipefitters, plumbers, electricians and other
trades operating as family businesses and independent contractors.
